What To Give As Housewarming Gift

If you’re attending a housewarming, you should make sure to bring a gift to give. There’s no section in the department store that’s dedicated to housewarming gifts so you need to use your common sense. Plates or silverware are common and safe, so you should stick to these if you don’t know the lifestyle of a person. You can give something that the person can use.

it is a good idea to ask the person what he prefers as a housewarming gift. This is the best option because you might be giving something they already have. If they say don’t bring anything, always bring something. If you really cannot decide what gift to bring, here are some tips.

Food Gifts
Anything that can be eaten and shared can be a good gift idea. Pack an assortment of fruits inside a basket then wrap with plastic or foil. Be careful when bringing cookies to a new house, because the home owner might be diabetic and won’t be able to eat the cookies you bring.

Items for Decoration
Decorative items make great housewarming presents. Make sure to ask whether or not the owner has a garden so you can widen your perspective. Having a lot of choices, bring the decor item that you think will fit the lifestyle of your friend. Take note of the home’s style. Don’t bring something ornate if you’re not sure whether or not the person is into such things.

Craft Gifts
Crafts are quaint and can be given as gifts. Picture frames, table runners and even centerpiece baskets are great. If you can, bring environmentally friendly items. Embroidered pillow cases are also great. Knitted items bespeak your good taste, especially if you’re the one who knitted the item.

Hangings and Charms
Home charms are those things that are said to attract luck and wealth to the home. Some people like items but others are non-believers so they’t be able to appreciate it. You can give a wind chime instead.

What Not to Bring
Now we get to the housewarming gifts that could offend or could be taken as an insult. Pets, for example. Choosing a pet is a prerogative of a homeowner and if you bring one with you as a housewarming gift, the owner might find it difficult to turn you down even if he doesn’t want the pet.
