Tips On How To Get Your Child To Take Their Medicine

As a parent you hate it when your kids are sick. As quick as possible, you would want them to get better and antibiotics or medicine of some sort would usually be the quickest way to do this.

The problem would usually come in when your child does not want to take their medicine because they don’t like it. If you have a child that struggles to take a certain kind of medicine, don’t be afraid to ask about the taste and if there an alternative to this medicine even though you as a parent would give your child what the doctor has prescribed.

While it’s true that you can force feed them their medicine, it will be unpleasant for everyone and your child will just throw it back up anyway if they get upset enough. Also, you may waste doses unless you are extremely proficient at this.

Besides saving you and your kids from some miserable moments, anything you can do for your child to make it easier for them to take their medicine will also get them healthier.

Some have found with liquids that don’t taste good that if they have a drink ready with something sweet it seems to help, It has even been known to use a spoon full of sugar to help the medicine go down easier.

Even though parents don’t like to do it, what you can do is plug your child’s nose so that they have to open their mouth and try it that way. Although most of the time this will work if you’re quick, this won’t solve the problem if they can’t easily swallow pills or if they hate their chewables.

Finally, if nothing else works resort to bribery with the nasty tasting chewable medicine. Get a package of sweet tarts and he/she could have a sweet tart, follow it with the chewable, and then another sweet tart. This of course only works if your child likes this type of candy. But you can try others if you have to.

Then there are the pills that would require swallowing but learning how to do this can be tough for children sometimes. Some have found that placing the pill in a spoonful of applesauce makes it easier for children to get the pill down without choking.

When it comes to medicine, make sure that you are firm and let them know that somehow, someway the medicine must get into their tummy to make them feel better. But it doesn’t change the fact that you can still be sympathetic and follow the dosage with a lot of love and attention.
