The Homeschooling Environment and its Benefits to Children

Perhaps one of the greatest benefits available with homeschooling children is the bond between parent and child. The school age years are when so many attitudes and beliefs are formed that will impact a child for life. Of course there are many factors that must be taken into account in any situation. But generally speaking any child will be in a greater position to form far healthier and positive self images when educated in loving and supportive setting. That is something the vast majority of people will never know in their lives. A child can take that healthy development and continue to grow into an adult who is not challenged with low self esteem or self confidence. Those two benefits alone are priceless, and as you know there are far too many adults who do not possess those qualities.

One of the metrics so many parents look at when they are considering a new school for their children is the ratio of teachers to students. That is a prime indicator of many things not the least of which is individual attention. Many public schools are overcrowded, and the teacher simply does not have time to give high quality attention. There are many students who can benefit from receiving more attention. So of course this is a situation and concern that is removed with homeschooling. The amount of individual attention can be as great or minimal as is necessary. That alone can make all the difference in a child’s success with learning any subject. You really need to put on some eyeglass frames to truly focus on this concept.

Part of learning is doing independent work that was learned during the day at school. That is just another expression for doing homework. But we all know that so many children ignore their homework for a variety of reasons. So obviously the situation is a bit different when a child’s teacher is a parent. A young student may not delight in the fact that homework is actually a good idea if used properly. But the fact remains that the parent will know exactly how their children are performing when it comes to completing assignments. It is also possible for the home class to have time to complete homework assignments during the day.

All people have areas of strengths and challenges, and the homeschool education can be the perfect setting to address each one. This is simply a more customized approach to education, and it serves the child in the best possible way. Obviously, a child who is weak in any particular subject can receive more attention in that subject. On the other hand, if a child excels in any subject, then that can be developed further. But either way, with a strength or problem area, the homeschooled child can be given a chance to develop in a healthy and supportive atmosphere.

It seems there is a clear pattern with the benefits attainable with homeschooling. There can be a greater chance for much more highly developed interpersonal skills. Children have a tremendous chance to be more confident in all they do, and the ability to successfully communicate is powerful.
