Noticing Problems With Your Roof
You should always check how good the roof is on your new or existing home. As roof are so expensive to repair, you should keep an eye out on potential damage so as to reduce repair costs for yourself.
You need to know what you are looking at and what you are inspecting. There are four important issues:
- Exterior inspection- A first general look at the roof will give you the best indication of the quality of it. Look for an un-smooth surface on the roof and perhaps any other defects.
- Materials on the roof- Take a look at the tiles to see if any are broken or abnormally worn. Sometimes tiles can come away from the nails that hold them in, so you must look out for these. You should also look for rusting or loose fasteners as these can cause problems.
- Loft inspection- Damaged wood in the loft can cause or be caused by leakages through the roof. If you have a problem with ventilation, you will notice a rusty stain around the roof nails.
- Inspection of indoor ceilings- This is the last stage, which is for looking signs of ventilation and leak problems. Ceiling insulation that is damaged will lead to the previously discussed damage to the ceilings. Just fixing the problem however is not the course of action to take as you should try finding the source of the problem and fix potential future problems.
