Motorhome And Touring Holidays in France

France has always appealed to the more adventurous British holiday maker, partially because of proximity and partially due to the low cost of getting there aboard ferries or the Channel Tunnel. In less time than it takes to drive to Birmingham or Manchester, you can experience a completely different culture, cuisine and language. Novice continental motorhomers appreciate the fact that a motorhome is easier to drive and reverse than a towed caravan, making boarding and disembarking from ferries less of an embarrassing hassle.

Motorhome rental packages are an attractive option for those who can’t afford to buy or just need the vehicle for a couple of weeks to get to their continental destination of choice and for many, that destination is France. A few providers of motorhomes for sale now include conversion packages for lights and other required continental extras such as compulsory warning triangle and full set of replacement bulbs. Those who prefer not to hire and can’t afford new vehicles can investigate used motorhomes for sale, but do need to ensure that the vehicle is mechanically sound breaking down in France is no joke. Keeping the pedal off the metal is also important as radar traps are frequent and speeding and other traffic offences are subject to on-the-spot fines or instant confiscation of your licence.

Having said all that, France does have hundreds of fascinating areas to explore in a motorhome with thousands of good quality campsites that welcome touring holidaymakers. In summer, you may have to pre-book some of the more popular campsites, especially in places like Brittany, which is one of the most popular touring areas in the country. These sites are often very well equipped, with numerous facilities to hand, but depending on where you want to go, costs do vary. If you head for the Cote D’Azur and the French Riviera, a pitch can be as much as four times that of a touring site in Normandy, which could dent the spending money. There are hundreds of sites that offer minimal facilities but beautiful settings which are considerably cheaper and probably give more of a genuine flavour of France.
