How to Write Press Releases that Get Results

If you want a quick and very easy way to get targeted traffic to your site or product, then you need to use a good press release. There are several excellent uses of a press release, but writing them just the right way takes a little bit of special knowledge.

Many press releases do get syndicated on major news outlets, but a lot of things have to be right before that happens. A press release is meant to be some kind of news, and so there is really no reason to write a long piece on it. One thing to avoid is sounding either too scholarly or too simplistic as you want to create a positive impression on whoever reads them. Your frame of reference must follow the accepted standard for press releases which is third person. Besides this, keep your tenses consistent – be either in the past, present or the future. These are just standard formats and structures you should always follow.

Background information is always reserved for the concluding paragraph because all the news is generally discussed first. If you look at professional press releases, you will clearly see a URL in this same paragraph and most often toward the end of it. The abbreviated history of your business will help readers develop a little more trust that will hopefully work in your favor. Remember this is not a biographical sketch, but it is about your business and any relevant background information. You can possibly make more personal data work to your favor, but overall it must be related to the rest of the release. It is generally not a good idea to offer any readers too many choices, so bear that in mind if you want to give them additional links.

One thing you will see in very many releases are quotes, and they are usually from a high ranking person in the company. Quotes used the right way can enliven a press release and give it a highly professional touch, since the readers get to see things from your perspective. Totally avoid misleading people by using fake quotes that were never made, etc.

Your quote is included to make the press release stronger and not detract from your intended purpose. Just be sure that the quote is applicable and was actually said by the person attributed to it. Aside from that, writing press releases is not hard at all, but there is an accepted structure to remember. The best approach is to learn more about writing and publishing press releases and also optimizing them for SEO.
