Exactly Why Do Individuals Opt To Live Green?
Green living is currently a very popular subject as it’s always talked about in the media. Parts of the economy and industry that are focused on being green may help to create new jobs and find new alternatives to traditional fuels. But just what exactly will succeed in the Green Economy can only be confirmed by consumers reaction to them. So the huge question we must examine is why are people deciding to live green? boresha coffee
The subject is something I ask myself personally and I try to ascertain people’s frame of mind. The obvious explanation is that many people who make an effort to live green are concerned about saving the environment. Perhaps another possibility is that there are people today who love the cutting edge of innovative green technologies. Another cause is that people want to save money, despite the preliminary high cost of going green. boresha coffee review
In spite of what seem like common sense explanations, the truth is quite different according to a Wall Street Journal article. The real reason that gets people motivated to go eco-friendly is peer pressure. Yes that is certainly right, classic peer pressure.
There was an experiment done where to placards were installed in the hotel restrooms. The two placards asked that guests reuse the towels more than one day. On just one of the placards it said “Show your reverence for mother nature”. The other one said “Join your fellow guests in helping to spare the environment”. It proved that 75% of guests did follow the appeal to reuse the towels. As you will have guessed, most individuals reused their towels when looking at the second placard that said their fellow guests were doing it as well. In a alteration to the experiment, the second placard’s information was changed to read “75% of travelers using this room reprocessed their towels?. The results were superior than the first.
So as you can tell peer pressure did wonders in this situation, just as it works in most situations in daily life. Telling people that others are carrying out something rather than simply telling them to save the planet is more effective at getting everyday people to be green.
This analysis and its results indicates there are certain implications for companies that market these environmentally friendly products to consumers. That sensation of guilt caused by peer pressure has many people taking action consequently where they would not have performed anything otherwise. So the best option to market a green product is to make the customer feel blameworthy for not doing it. No doubt they’ll employ sales approaches like in the study.
Overall I was surprised at the research project and its success. Still when I really look at it, it really not all that suprising. I guess individuals psychologically adapt to what others do because it may be less difficult or we simply don’t want to be known as different.
So that is the real reason people today wish to go green. Without doubt people go green for the alternative reasons I mentioned, however it’s somewhat surprising to see lots go green because of peer pressure.
