There is such a tremendous amount of change occurring in teenage children, and actually many could be offended by being called, teenage “children”. Young adults have acquired this status by coming into the higher teen years. The most important thing to realize is teens are slowly entering the time to become more independent of the family structure, or unit. That would indicate a move towards self reliance without you – the parents. At some point in time, they will achieve the development of their own senses, both emotionally and bodily.
Much harm is done to children when derogatory remarks are pointed at them, especially by a parent. Parents can cause long-lasting damage to a child when they make such comments. When raising your children, it is just as easy to teach them love and acceptance, as it is to teach them hatred and anger. If your goal is to destroy your children, then pour on as many negative remarks as you can. Many people should never have children because they have negative behaviors that will affect their children even if the attitudes are not directed towards them. Very often the child will not understand, and the effect will be to cause fear within the child.
Parents that are played against each other by their own kids are obviously making inconsistent decisions and bad choices. Irregular behavior can actually work to the advantage of a child in a very bad way allowing them to actually use one parent to perpetuate ill feelings at home. As a byproduct of this, the parents will often argue between themselves causing more disharmony.
Even worse, the child is learning a skill that he or she should not know. The negative atmosphere at home will perpetuate the child’s ability to manipulate the situation. Once they understand they can manipulate their parents, this carries over into the real world as they attempt to do it to others.
All of this can be stopped by simply changing the child’s environment from one of anxiety to a place of comfort and consistency. It is always preferable to see children raised in an atmosphere full of love and reliability. This feeling of being secure and safe will continue on with them throughout their lives affecting the way they think and the choices that they make. The flipside of the coin represents kids raised in a place that did not allow them to feel safe. This is not to say that bad childhood experiences filled with insecurities is the reason that many adults today feel insecure. Simply stated, children that do grow up in a balanced environment have a better chance of doing well and being much more happy as an adult.
